youth art gallery celebration
Thank you to everyone who came out to our Youth Art Gallery Event June 12th! And a big congratulations to all the artists for completing the program and creating amazing work. We hope to see you again next year!
The Annual Youth Art Gallery Event is the highlight of our Youth Art Engagement Project, a free 9-week program that we offer to youth in the Tri-Cities.
The goal of the project is to give youth the knowledge and tools to prevent all forms of sexual exploitation from happening to themselves or their friends. At the same time, they create their own piece of social justice artwork ("art with a message") to help raise awareness of the issue of child/ youth sexual exploitation.
Youth use a variety of materials and mediums to express their understanding of the issue, including acrylic, watercolor and spray paint, clay sculpting, poetry, and more.
Students from three schools in the Tri-Cities area (Coquitlam Alternative Basic Education, Suwa’lkh Aboriginal, and Customized Learning Centre) are involved in this project this year and will display their artwork at the annual Youth Art Gallery Celebration to family members, teachers, and community members.
