Victim Impact Awareness Training 2019

Sexual Exploitation: A Focus on Vulnerable Populations

Funded by Department of Justice Canada

Free workshop – registration required

Join our presenters as they discuss what makes certain populations more vulnerable to sexual exploitation and how to support sexually exploited or trafficked individuals from these populations.

While sexual exploitation and human trafficking can happen to anyone there are certain risk factors that put a person at increased risk. Things such as being a child in foster care, having a history of abuse, being a newcomer or immigrant, having a disability or being from the LGBTQ2+ community all increase the risk of experiencing sexual exploitation. Find out more about these risk factors and special considerations when working with victims from these populations.

This event will include informative presentations from guest speakers highlighting the services offered by their organizations and their approach to supporting victims of sexual exploitation from a special population:

  • Karen Jarvis - MCFD Social Worker, Agreements with Young Adults,

  • Joanne Chen - Manager at MOSAIC Children and Parenting Programs and Youth Programs

  • Nicky Waring - Sexual Health and Relationships Educator at Ready! Relate Education

Participants will learn about:

  • Support principles and services for trafficked victims from vulnerable populations

  • Unique considerations when working with victims from special populations

  • The Resources available to support individuals from special populations

  • Get a chance to network with service providers and community partners
